Taper: Trackstar the DJ
Lineage: Unknown tape recorder > Master ANA
Notes: The day of the 2022 Alpine Valley show someone alerted me that Trackstar the DJ had an Instagram story of him holding a tape that he had made of Rage in Chicago in 1997. I reached out not expecting anything back and lo and behold he responded! Initially he said he'd have to wait for the tour to end to dig it up but then he emailed back saying that he had transferred one side of the tape awhile ago and sent it over. I cannot thank him enough - this is a really cool piece of concert history and now he's opening for Rage on the Public Service Announcement Tour! This is a rough sounding tape that might've been recorded in mono or had a mono transfer done. I think the tape recorder was shoved in his back pocket so the beginning is kind of muffled, but hey, this is the only source of this show! Mary Morello introduces the show as her Chicago tradition.
Hopefully we should get the complete tape when the tour finishes but in the meantime this is absolutely fantastic - a huge thanks again to Trackstar the DJ! This is one of the reasons why Run the Jewels is the greatest rap group in the world. Looking forward to seeing you at some more dates this tour!
